Verizon today confirmed that 2010 phone books are being delivered straight to curbside trashcans. Citing the decline in the number of people who still use phone books (currently only 3 people do in NYC), Verizon stated that they had no choice but to send them directly to garbage cans or landfills since there are no storage options available. Building lobbies, restaurant booster seats and grandmas with rotary phones and are at capacity with 2008 and 2009 editions.
“Our building’s doorman built a desk with last year’s delivery. He was thinking of adding a bathroom if 2010 was delivered,” said Lucia Karman who lives on New York’s Upper West Side.
Unfortunately, Verizon’s contract with Amazon Forest Paper Products doesn’t expire until 2020.
